A Planetary civilization, or global civilization is a civilization of Type I on Kardashev scale, with energy consumption level near contemporary terrestrial civilization with an energy capability equivalent to the solar insolation on Earth, (between 10¹⁶ and 10¹⁷ watts). In social aspect — the worldwide, global, increasingly interconnected, international, highly technological society.

Планетарная цивилизация (planetary civilization), или глобальная цивилизация — цивилизация типа 1 по Шкале Карадашёва, энергопотребление которой сравнимо с мощностью, получаемой планетой от центральной звезды. В социологическом аспекте — современный этап цивилизационного развития, характеризующийся возрастающей целостностью мирового сообщества, становлением единой общепланетарной цивилизации. Глобализация связана прежде всего с интернационализацией всей общественной деятельности на Земле. 	Ближайшие сто лет в мире будут преобладать две тенденции. Первая тенденция ведёт к тому, что можно назвать цивилизацией первого типа или планетарной цивилизацией... Основная же опасность в переходе между типом ноль и типом один. Это и происходит в наши дни. Мы - цивилизация нулевого типа. Мы добываем энергию из мертвых растений, нефти и угля. Но возьмите калькулятор и посчитайте, когда мы достигнем типа один. Вот ответ: мы достигнем планетарности примерно через сто лет и начнем в полной мере использовать весь энергетический потенциал планеты. Мы приручим погоду, землетрясения, вулканы, мы покорим планету. Самое опасное время - сейчас. Мы все никак не избавимся от дикарского прошлого, страстей сектантских, фундаменталистских идей, витающих повсюду. Но у нас есть и ядерное оружие... способное уничтожить все живое на Земле. Так что я вижу две современные тенденции. Первая ведет нас к мультикультурному научному толерантному обществу. И где бы я ни оказался, я наблюдаю аспекты рождения такого общества. Например, что такое Интернет? … миллиарды и миллиарды слов написаны об Интернете. Но для меня, как для физика, Интернет - это начало телефонной системы первого типа, планетарной телефонной системы.
